16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence
The Centre for Sexual Violence Response, Support & Education invites members of the York community to take action as part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence — an annual international campaign running from November 25 (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) to December 10 (Human Rights Day).
Throughout the 16 Days, The Centre and partners from across the university will host community events, talks, workshops and activities. This year, our events will be focused on the theme of Ending Digital Violence Against Women and Girls, which highlights the urgent need to make online spaces safer, more inclusive, and free from harassment, abuse and exploitation. This year’s theme calls attention to the growing impact of digital violence and affirms our collective responsibility to protect the rights, dignity and voices of women and girls in all digital environments.
Join Us & Take Action
All York community members are welcome to attend events, some of which require registration. See below for more information.
Content warning: We recognize that each one of us has personal histories and struggles. As such, please note that community events and the memorial ceremony will mention different forms of sexual violence including sexual assault, sexual harassment and murder. Please prioritize your health and wellbeing and take the space that you need for each event. For more resources and supports, community members can contact The Centre for Sexual Violence Response, Support & Education (thecentre@yorku.ca).

National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women
December 6 marks the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. York University will host a memorial ceremony to honour the victims of the Polytechnique Montréal tragedy. Community members are invited to attend and wear a white ribbon as a symbol of their commitment to ending gender-based violence.
